Hi everyone! It’s Trisha, your SOF ambassador!

Spring has finally sprung and you know what that means… spring cleaning! Most people in Japan do their major house cleaning before they welcome the new year in December but me? Nope. I’m too busy working (okay, working and partying) so I usually skip all the hassle and do my house cleaning in spring.

Spring is a beautiful season I never really got to experience in Hawaii. With cherry blossoms blooming everywhere and everyone saying goodbye to their heavy duty snow gear, it’s more than just anticipated warmness in Japan. It’s a celebration of new lifestyle!

New lifestyle means it’s also a great time to reflect and clean up your eating habits! Using your spring energy can make clean eating a fun process to wellness. Just like cleaning your house, don’t start somewhere so big and so dreadful. No matter how excited you are about starting the new season fresh, if it isn’t fun then what’s the point?

I like to start my clean eating process with homemade smoothies, especially for breakfast. I make one in the morning and if I don’t drink it right away, I bring it with me and enjoy it as a nice snack. Smoothies are great as meal replacements as well so if I feel like it, I’d have it as lunch. You can’t go wrong with making smoothies in the morning! You’ve got to give it a try!

There are no rules in making smoothies. It’s all about what you like and what you are in the mood for. So don’t get all serious in making them! Imagine your favorite desserts. What’s in it? Try and mimic it and I’m sure it will turn out great! One of my favorite smoothies was inspired from banana split sundae. I use ripe bananas, ethically grown organic cocoa powder, and almond milk. Bananas’ natural sweetness does the trick so there’s no need to use honey or maple syrup. See! I told you, it’s super easy!

Besides smoothies, I love slushies!! Unlike smoothies, slushies are made with water and or juice. They are not as heavy on your stomach but still can be a meal replacement or a snack. One of my favorite slushes consists of fresh pineapples and orange juice. That’s all. Simple is the best! Also coconut water with strawberries and a bit of honey is super nice as well. For slushee recipe inspiration, imagine your favorite cocktails! Isn’t it fun?! Sometimes, I actually add vodka to these slushies when I host home parties and everyone goes crazy over its deliciousness!

To make smoothies and slushies, I use a store bought blender. Seeing an informercial on late night TV got me interested in buying one couple years ago and I contemplated for months before buying one. What if I don’t use it often and it just takes up space in my kitchen and collect dust? I didn’t want to waste money and waste the precious space in my kitchen. The answer? I made a space in the cubby of my kitchen where I could easily retrieve and put the blender away. After I made that special spot in my kitchen, I went and got myself a blender and since then, there has not been a day where I didn’t use the blender! If you are worried like me, I recommend making a special spot in your kitchen!
